What the Critics Are Saying!

"One of the most popular articles that SFMHS' journal The Argonaut has ever published was one by Bill Kostura on the moving of houses in San Francisco. The aficionados of that article now have an entire book of text and numerous photos in San Francisco Relocated.

Donovan has divided her book both chronologically and by theme. For example, it deals with moving houses, churches, and commercial buildings during the period of urban renewal in the Western Addition. It also enumerates the churches that have been moved, including St. Patrick's church, built on Market and Third Streets in the 1850s and later moved to the Western Addition, where it still stands.

A wonderful book to savor.
